Penwith Local History Group will launching their latest book on Saturday 17 September at the Morrab Library Penzance.

The Book, Women of West Cornwall, is written by Caroline Baker, Linda Camidge, Sally Corbet, Jenny Dearlove, Pam Lomax, Jean Nankervis, Sue Nebesnuick, Susan Soyinka and Dawn Walker. It is edited and introduced by Pam Lomax.

The ten authors present different aspects of the lives of women in West Cornwall, covering the years 1600-1945. The themes of the different chapters include the inevitability of women's life in farming and fishing communities, the lot of the miner's widow, women's employment, modelling for the Newlyn Artists, the Female Friendly Society, the treatment of women in wills, the experiences of slandered women, women and evacuee children in time of war, rival carnival queens, suffragists on the march, and the every day story of women and washing.
