The meeting was held on March 12th. March was British Women's History Month. Members enjoyed the usual coffee and delicious cakes. The business was quickly dealt with and plans made for future Penwith Papers.
Michael Leach gave an interesting talk on pilgrimage and the 1648 rebellion, both of which affected Ludgvan. In the Middle Ages St Michael’s Mount was popular when thousands of people went on pilgrimages. In 1648 Ludgvan and the south coast were occupied by a hostile army. Cornwall was impoverished and when taxes came there were uprisings in Helston, Penzance and Marazion. There is very little documentary evidence but photographs showed evidence of broken church windows in Gulval and Ludgvan. Michael was thanked for his talk and a lively discussion followed.
Beyond the Bookshelves is selling for £15 and four other titles for £10 each at The Morrab Library whenever the library is open.
