We were all very sorry to hear of the sudden death of Carlene Harry, one of our longest-serving group members. After a working life with the Bank of England, Carlene served for many years as the group’s treasurer and also made a huge contribution to our publications, researching and writing at least one chapter for every one of our books over a period of 25 years
Carlene’s particular interest was the parish of Morvah, and she also contributed to this website the ‘Which St Bridget’ Penwith Paper which she had recently updated.
Carlene was busy to the last, preparing materials for a recent group symposium, and her commitment, attention to detail and extensive knowledge will be very much missed. She was always wholly reliable and generous in sharing her research.
Our sincerest condolences go to Carlene’s family.
On a happier note, Carlene will have been very happy to hear that our most recent book, ‘Growing Up in West Cornwall,’ was nominated for a Holyer an Gof award in the Social, Cultural and Political History section.
We are delighted to have been honoured in this way, and to be mentioned alongside a range of other fascinating books. Copies of this and most of our other books are still available – just follow the link to ‘Publications’
