A Great Honour
Ron Hogg (centre) at the 2019 Gorsedd ceremony
On Saturday 8th September 2019, member Ron Hogg was honoured by being made a Bard of the Cornish Gorsedd or ‘Gorsedh Kernow.’ The ceremony took place at St Just in the Plen-an-Gwarry, an ancient circle believed to have been a theatre.
Ron is also a founder member and Treasurer of Newlyn Archive, and has recently supervised the renovation of the Boathouse to hold the Newlyn Archive.
His bardic name is ‘Crambler Alsyow’, Climber of Cliffs.
A Sad Farewell
Some of the group, as photographed in about 2010. Jim is the left, wearing the fairisle-patterened cardigan. Ron is in the middle, wearing a green jumper
On a sadder note, the group is sorry to announce the death of long-standing member Jim Hosking. The author of a range of much-appreciated books centred on the Hosking family, he, too, was a bard: ‘Ystorer Trevow’, Historian of Villages. Jim was valued within the group for his wisdom, willingness and sense of fun. Jim's family history is a strong thread within the history of Penwith, and he will be sadly missed.
