As a change from the usual monthly meeting on 10th April, the group enjoyed a visit to St Hilary Church. Members gathered in the church to listen to a multi-media presentation about the history of the site from Roman times, through the different stages of the church buildings to the role that St Hilary played in outside broadcasts from the BBC.
The fascinating talks were given by historian Owen Baker, church organist David Ball – who also provided live music – and group member Carrie Baker, who explained the background to the artworks for which the church is famous.
After the talk, there was plenty of time to look round the church and enjoy a cream tea, prepared by Ros and Paul Turner, with delicious scones baked by Carrie.
